The Craziest Looks At NYFW SS 2014

Think last year was crazy? Wait till you see the outfits, hair, and 'ears' that made it down the runway this year!!

The Blonds took on a Tweety Bird meets Spock look at their show at MILK studios.  Models wore huge "tweety" buns and mirrored pointy "ears" down the runway dressed in a collection inspired by all the "famous" blonds in history from the Barbarella to Madonna.  Of course paying tribute to the first famous blond.....Tweety Bird?!?

Zac Posen's collection of gorgeous gowns was soft and romantic.  Hair was adorned with silk flowers and dusted with grey.  The standout beauty look of his collection was the bright green hair he sent down the catwalk amongst the other natural hair colored models.  It is the best green hair we've ever seen though!

Falguni and Shane Peacock always put on a good show but this season they accessorized their patterned jackets and see-through gowns with metallic leg braces?!?! An interesting look in deed

Last but not least, Betsey Johnson who's collection was entitled: A BJ a Day.  She went for a more "serious" approach with pink haired models donning metallic lips and eyes and ombre pink and chrome nails.  Her collection was her favorite looks to wear personally but the real show stopper was the finale.  Models came back out on stage dressed in days of the week undies!  Betsey even wore a pair over her leggings and the 71 year old was happy to shake her butt for the paparazzi.

Lily takes another venture into world of fashion.

Lily Allen is soon to be following in the footsteps of the likes of Kate Moss and Sienna Miller by designing her own range of clothes. Unlike Lily's past ventures into fashion, which saw her with her own collection for high street brand New Look, the designs will be for her own label.  You can find her designs at her new store, Lucy In Disguise, which she opened with sister Sarah Owen in London last year. The raven haired singer announced her plans to design a collection of vintage inspired clothes for the brand, which will go on sale this June.

Taking her inspiration from the 1930s and 40s, the collection will be sold under the names of notable people and places in history.

To help with the designs, Lily has called upon Nadia Jones, sister of LVMH menswear director Kim Jones, to aid in creating unique, vintage inspired creations.

The items will be available through Harvey Nichols in the UK and Shopbop in the US as well as the singer's Lucy in Disguise store, London.

Carine’s Next Move

Hooray! We finally know what will become of ex French Vogue Editor, Carine Roitfeld. The French beauty will be teaming up with Barneys to edit and style their autumn/winter 2011-2012 campaign which will be shot by photographer, Mario Sorrenti. She will also be styling the windows of the Madison Avenue store which will be unveiled in September of this year.

About the move to retail, she tells WWD "To be on the other side with the retailers and buyers is new for me, and I always like new opportunities in my life," she says.  "Working with Barneys, and choosing the looks, I was thinking about whether a real woman would buy this outfit and feel beautiful and comfortable."

To add to this, Roitfeld is also bringing out a book this year, which consists of over 400 pages about her career in fashion so far. The book boasts a number of impressive contributors such as American Vogue Editor, Anna Wintour and is edited by Purple Magazines, Olivier Zahm.  The 56 year old former model is a perfect example of why your career doesn’t have to end as you get older.

Gisele Covers Up!

Now we think it’s safe to say that we are all so used to seeing half naked models and celebrities plastered over every billboard, selling us the latest products.  It could even be called a little mundane. However, images of Gisele Bundchen’s latest campaign for highstreet brand H & M have been digitally modified for the people of Dubai to show a little less flesh than what we’re used to.

The model appears in the adverts wearing T-Shirts under every outfit that could be considered even remotely revealing to be more intact with the target audience in the Middle East.

The Daily Mail quoted La Moda Dubai as saying “"Perhaps some changes were made to better align the campaign with the sensibilities of the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) market".

It makes us wonder whether the images that we have become so accustomed to seeing in more Western countries are encouraging us to become passive about vast amounts of skin being on show and encouraging the market to dress the same way.

Whatever the case, we are excited to see such top models as Gisele appearing in campaigns for high street brands!

Elizabeth Taylor; Death of a star.

This week marked the end of an era. From those who grew up with her on their screens, to those of the younger generation who admired her work; together we commiserate the death of a legend. Elizabeth Taylor.

Taylor rose to fame at age 9 when she starred in One Born Every Minute, and from then onwards was a regular on the ‘Big Screen’, winning Best Actress at the Oscars twice!

Throughout her career, her taste in fashion was constantly critiqued by the press, who never quite understood her theatrical way of dressing. However, it was this pure ‘Hollywood’ attitude  that gained the attention of many, worldwide. Her perfect hourglass figure was the envy of thousands of women and everyone was mesmerized by her charm, not to mention her unusual beauty; She was born with a double layer of eyelashes. Jealous? Us?

Director Mike Nichols, who worked with Taylor on Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf said of the actress,
“The shock of Elizabeth was not only her beauty. It was her generosity. Her giant laugh.”

Throughout her life, during which she married eight times, received five Oscar nominations and battled a brain tumour, she remained the epitome of true Hollywood glamour.  At age 79, Taylor died at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, Los Angeles a respectful and dignified woman, who has set the bar high for Hollywood actors and actresses to come. A true star.

We feel it’s only right to close with some inspirational words from Elizabeth Taylor herself.
“I feel very adventurous. There are so many doors to be opened, and I’m not afraid to look behind them.”

The New Fashion "It"

The fashion world has always got an “it” girl or boy of the moment; Think Kate Moss, Agnes Deyn, Josh Beech. However this year, there’s a little difference to the most talked about model from Fashion Week.  Enter Australian model, Andrej Pejic. Standing over 6ft tall with long, white blonde hair, a dewy complexion and cheekbones to die for, Andrej is the envy of every female model.

Here’s the twist: Andrej is a guy! He has hit the headlines recently for modeling both mens and womens wear. It is, admittedly, hard when seeing Pejic on the catwalk amongst female models to realise that he is, in fact, a male. His build is considered almost perfect for couture, which is why he was chosen to model a wedding dress for Jean Paul Gaultier’s show during January’s Haute Couture Fashion Week. While still modeling menswear, Pejic has been chosen to front many womenswear collections for prominent designers worldwide, at just 19 years old!

The model, who’s originally from Bosnia, is gaining mixed reactions with some embracing his unique, androgynous appearance while others find it difficult to understand the concept of a man advertising clothes which are made for women.
We think Pejic is going to be at the heart of debates for weeks to come, but one thing’s for sure; he can work a dress!
