This week marked the end of an era. From those who grew up with her on their screens, to those of the younger generation who admired her work; together we commiserate the death of a legend. Elizabeth Taylor.
Taylor rose to fame at age 9 when she starred in One Born Every Minute, and from then onwards was a regular on the ‘Big Screen’, winning Best Actress at the Oscars twice!
Throughout her career, her taste in fashion was constantly critiqued by the press, who never quite understood her theatrical way of dressing. However, it was this pure ‘Hollywood’ attitude that gained the attention of many, worldwide. Her perfect hourglass figure was the envy of thousands of women and everyone was mesmerized by her charm, not to mention her unusual beauty; She was born with a double layer of eyelashes. Jealous? Us?
Director Mike Nichols, who worked with Taylor on Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf said of the actress, “The shock of Elizabeth was not only her beauty. It was her generosity. Her giant laugh.”
Throughout her life, during which she married eight times, received five Oscar nominations and battled a brain tumour, she remained the epitome of true Hollywood glamour. At age 79, Taylor died at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, Los Angeles a respectful and dignified woman, who has set the bar high for Hollywood actors and actresses to come. A true star.
We feel it’s only right to close with some inspirational words from Elizabeth Taylor herself.
“I feel very adventurous. There are so many doors to be opened, and I’m not afraid to look behind them.”
